Pick-up Girl brings us to the crossroads of a low-fi sounding Go-Go’s and a female version of The Ramones in their new self-titled CD. The girls mix some pop, punk and folk together for that throw-back sound of jangly, slightly out of tune guitar that was a staple of those late 70s indie bands.

Tracy Dezenzo writes some very catchy melodies that the rest of the band (Jenny Hill on drums and Caroline Olivier on bass) drives and supports with simple, easy-to-dance-to arrangements. Track three, "Thankfully," reminded me of a Hootie and the Blowfish tune in its appealing simplicity.

There’s a lot of good stuff in those tracks, but after a while the strum-strum nature of the guitar and the kick-snare-kick-snare beat of the kit don't really do justice to these well-written songs. I want to hear more from Pick-up Girl, but I would suggest a producer or third ear who would be able to help deconstruct the songs and find a way of making them ebb and flow a bit more.

"...strong beats to get the blood pumping as you groove along to them.
The EP is nicely done and works well as an appetizer for hopefully what is to come from Pick-Up Girl in the future."

I've found myself humming songs the past few days -- not knowing exactly what they were. I then realized that they're your songs. They're incredibly infectious.
