About Beth H.

I was born & raised in lower Westchester County, NY. I come from an Irish/Scottish Catholic family that’s been in NYC a hundred years or so and lived there until I was 27. I moved to DC for 3 years and then came to my senses: I woke up on a beach in front of the Hotel Del Coronado and couldn’t believe that people actually lived in San Diego. It took a while, but I made it out here and I love it.

My folks are completely responsible for my obsession with music. When I couldn’t sleep my dad would drive me around the block a hundred times and play me Doo-Wop, Motown and Billy Joel. My mother listened to a lot of 70’s singer songwriters so I’ve got a real soft spot for writers who make me think and songs that make me dance.

I studied saxophone fairly seriously from elementary school all the way up through high school and went to college based on that alone since I had slept through the SAT’s 3 times…

I taught myself guitar & bass by going through songbooks like: Stones, Dylan, Indigo Girls, James Taylor, etc… but I’m a huge fan of all kinds of music. My husband, Greg is a house music DJ and when we moved in together 4 months after hooking up at Boo 6 on Randall’s Island I jumped on the turntables and found a whole other way to love music and spend endless dollars on vinyl… it never ends.

I’m also a huge sports fan: NY Yankees, NY Giants & the Washington Capitals.

I’ve been in a bunch of bands throughout my life but I want to especially thank HONEYSPOT for being awesome – I hope I make you guys proud.

Equipment: Fender American Standard Stratocaster, Ovation 1861 Standard Balladeer, Fender Ultimate Chorus Amp, Fender Acoustasonic Amp, a bunch of pedals and some other stuff…

Influences: Everybody I’ve ever heard play. I’ve been influenced as much by hip-hop and electronica as much as I have been by British rock, Singers/Songwriters, Funk, Motown, Jazz, Blues, Alt. Country, Grunge, Lilith Fair, etc…

Specific Influences: Quincy Jones, REM, Indigo Girls, The Police, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Dr. Dre, Aimee Mann, The Pretenders, Liz Phair – this list changes every day, seriously.

Favorite food: NY Strip Steak, medium rare with a bitchin’ bottle of wine and some sides.

Favorite movie: I’m a serious movie geek – the kind of person that knows every line from Glengarry Glen Ross… so, right now my favorites are Layer Cake & Death Proof, but I maintain that everything I’ve eve needed to know I learned from watching Bull Durham.

Favorite eating establishment: Manero’s – Greenwich, CT; Ray’s the Steaks – Arlington, VA; Daily News Café – Carlsbad, CA

Favorite place to shop: Coach. Yeah, they’re gonna make me a custom guitar strap someday…

Favorite city: I can’t lie. I love San Diego and DC, but home will always be New York City. Although, the weather in SD kicks way too much ass to actually move back East… sorry Mom.
